You are invited to enjoy this novel service for making appointments in one of our Outpatient Clinics. Our staff will be pleased to give you personal attention and provide you with the appropriate service that you need.
The Appointment Service is operated by personnel solely for the purpose of making appointments by telephone.
The service allows you to make appointments and change prior appointments according to your convenience.
Making appointments is accomplished by one telephone call to the service, without any need to take other steps, and significantly reduces waiting time by an average of two weeks.
As an additional service to patients with appointments at the hospital, you will receive a personal reminder from our automated "telephone reminder" service, concerning the appointment date and the time, as well as pertinent details about forms and special preparations that may need to be done prior to treatment.
What do you need to do?
When you call our Outpatient Appointment Service, please give the Identity Number of the patient (child) and indicate the name of the Outpatient Department required. You will need to bring with you to the hospital the referral letter from the child's pediatrician and Form #17 (payment coverage) from your HMO.
The service operates daily, Sunday-Thursday, between the hours of
08.00-16.00.
The (multi-line) telephone number of the service is:

Children arrive in the ER for treatment presenting an array of urgent medical conditions, which result from illness or trauma, ranging from the agitated infant or the child with a high temperature to children in respiratory distress, suffering from convulsions or other critical symptoms caused by injury or disease.
The ER is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. As a children's hospital, patients from the ages of 0-18 arrive at the ER. During 2003, over 50,000 children were referred, of whom an average of 17% were hospitalized.
Reception:
As a rule, children who arrive at the ER have been previously examined and referred by the community physician, a medical center or brought by ambulance.
In extreme cases such as respiratory distress, fractures or poisoning, it is possible for parents to come with their children directly to the ER.
Treatment Procedure:
Registration at the reception and presentation of the referral note (children arriving in an ambulance are taken directly to the treatment room)
Initial examination by a nurse (hearing the problem, checking vital signs and determination of level of urgency for treatment - immediate, urgent, moderate or non-urgent)

The Hematology-Oncology Department for children and adolescents is a national referral center for Clalit Health Services. The Center was established 30 years ago and receives young patients with blood and malignant disease from all over the country. Similarly, the department treats international patients from the FSU, Turkey, Cyprus and others. Each year, about 150 new cases of malignant disease are diagnosed in children and adolescents and another 250 youngsters with various blood diseases. The Center comprises 5 sub-units:
Clinics
Hematology Clinic
Diagnostic Oncology Clinic
Follow-Up Clinic that presently includes over 1,000 children, adolescents and adults who have recovered from malignant diseases, some of whom are themselves married and parents of children today
Clinic for those with tumor diseases
Fertility Clinic
Neuro-Oncology Clinic
Hemo-Oncology Day Care
The unit comprises 15 beds and is open from 07:00 until 23:00 in order to ensure that patients and their families can receive lengthy treatments without the need for hospitalization. The late opening hours also allow children to attend regular kindergarten or school (or allow parents to go to work) during the day and still receive treatments in the afternoons or evenings.
Department for Designated Oncology Hospitalization
The unit comprises 20 beds for hospitalized patients who receive chemotherapy treatments, patients who suffer side effects following chemotherapy, and for patients in an advanced stage of the disease and their families who receive supportive care.
The Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit
Consists of 5 beds in individual rooms fitted with laminar airflow systems, where children from all over the country undergo bone marrow transplants.
Research Laboratories
There are 6 laboratories for Molecular Biology, Genetics, Bone Marrow and Immunology of Cancer, Blood Diseases and Stem Cell Biology.
The Center provides comprehensive care to the child and his family:
In the medical field - Pediatric doctors who have sub-specialized in Hematology and Oncology
In the nursing field - Skilled nurses in chemotherapy treatments, supportive care and care of the child in an advanced stage of the disease.
In the psychosocial field - Social workers accompany the child and his family throughout the course of treatment and its completion
Supportive care - Support groups for parents, children and adolescents
Multidisciplinary approach - The Center comprises multidisciplinary teams including psychiatrists, educators, art therapists, physical and occupational therapists, a dietician and others.
The main objective of treatment is to bring about the recovery of the young child and to safeguard his quality of life during and following therapy.
The team gives treatments to the child in his home, thus reducing the number of days the child and his family need to spend at the hospital. In addition, a doctor is on-call for inquiries on any problem that may arise during the day and at night.
A multidisciplinary team visits schools for explanatory purposes to meet with teachers and the patient's peers so that they will better understand their friend's disease and how best to help him during his absence from school. With the help of volunteers from various organizations, the department organizes children's birthdays, local outings and trips abroad, as well as family vacations for all the family members.

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) treats children who are in critical conditions from the ages of 0-18. Children undergoing complex open-heart surgeries, organ transplants, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, complex EEGs, diagnostic and therapeutic catheterizations or other difficult surgical procedures, are also hospitalized in the PICU for monitoring and continued treatment.
In addition, the PICU receives children who have been seriously injured in accidents, terror attacks, burn incidents or other emergency contingencies, as well as those who suffer from chronic debilitating diseases which requires specialized treatment and observation. Schneider Children's performs liver and kidney transplants both from live and deceased donors. The recipients are hospitalized in the PICU for continued care during the initial period following the transplant.
The PICU staff remain on permanent 24-hour alert for resuscitation in the hospital. When the code is operated, the unit team comprising a doctor, nurse and anesthesiologist, arrives and performs immediate resuscitation.
Diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopies are performed in the PICU. This service is provided to all the children in the hospital, including outpatients.
Sleep disturbances are examined in the PICU every night for children suffering from respiratory disorders. The children are referred for sleep testing by the attending physician or EEG doctor, and remain under observation for one night during which different measurements are taken to evaluate the respiratory condition.
